On December 16, 2022, the Whistleblower Protection Act was passed in the German Bundestag, which implements the EU Whistleblower Directive.

Whistleblowers are particularly important to society because they have the courage to expose grievances with their reports.
In order to better protect them in the future from negative consequences, such as dismissal, demotion, intimidation or the like, on Dec. 16, 2019, the EU Directive 2019/1937 on the protection of whistleblowers came into force in the EU Parliament came into force.
The objective of the directive:
– Detect and stop violations
– Establishment of confidential and secure reporting channels
– with effective protection for whistleblowers from consequences
– not to be held liable in relation to their employment
– neither civil, criminal nor administrative law
Who is affected by the directive:
Small and large companies with 50 or more employees, public sector institutions, public authorities as well as municipalities with 10000 or more inhabitants
